Scent Trek®

Scent Trek® technology makes it possible to capture scents that are rare, particularly inaccessible, or from flowers on the verge of extinction, or scents that are too volatile or too subtle. A plant-sized glass bubble is placed around the flower and a tube draws in the air. The scent is captured in a polymer. It can take hours to extract the scent from a single flower. The sample is then sent to the lab. Gas chromatography distinguishes the scent molecules in the sampled mixture, then mass spectroscopy identifies the proportions by weighing each molecule. The molecular identity is then defined to enable replication.
